Has it really been almost two years? Wow, I seem to have nearly abandoned my journals... well, I wasn't TOTALLY absent from deviantart. I have been checking messages and things, even though I haven't uploaded many new deviations... but I do have things I'd like to upload soon! Not sure when, but I will eventually. xD

If you've visited my pages in the distant past, then you may have noticed that many of my pages are... missing. Well, I started doing some housecleaning recently; tidying up submissions, getting rid of old deviations. I'm generally shooting to reinvent my dA page, to clean up the mess my immature self left in its wake several years past. It'll take a while to hit every last detail, but I'm chipping away at it bit by bit over the weeks.

In other news, I'm writing a novel! As in, an actual, feature-length book, to be printed and read in hardcover format! I've been working on it since fall of 2014, when I came up with the idea. Currently, I'm about 40,000 words in (plus some additional 15,000 words of notes, plot details, research, et cetera... xD I'm putting an inordinate amount of thought into its preparation. I want it to be perfect~). Sorry, though, it's something of a passion project, so I probably won't be posting much about it here. It's supposed to be a gift exclusively for my close friends. Well, maybe after I've finished this reinventing stuff I'll post excerpts or graphics that I've made to accompany the text. We'll see.

More news: I have some new social media now! You can find me on Instagram @ L_Scarlet and my personal tumblr is similarly "loyalscarlet". (But I plan to make another one soon and to change the names; one personal, one for book and art related things.) On my Instagram, I've been keeping an up-to-date list of the books that I'm currently reading, if you're interested in that. Which brings me to that last topic of discussion...

Oh my. How many books have I read in the past two years? Dozens and dozens, no doubt... I will probably forget a whole bunch, but here goes nothing...

In no particular order:

  • Library Wars (Vols. 11–14, although I may have reread the whole series again at some point)
  • Percy Jackson's Greek Gods
  • Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes
  • The Heroes of Olympus (Books 4 and 5)
  • The Red Pyramid (Just started rereading that one!)
  • The First Battle (Warriors: Dawn of the Clans #3)
  • Durarara!! Yellow Scarves Arc (All three volumes)
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Rift
  • City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3)
  • Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices #1)
  • On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft (by Stephen King)
  • Steal Like an Artist
  • The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series (All four books)
  • The Great Zoo of China
  • The Tournament
  • Troll Mountain
  • Let It Snow
  • Blue is the Warmest Color
  • This Star Won't Go Out
  • The Angel of Elhamburg
  • Chikubushima
  • S. (otherwise known as Ship of Theseus, by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst; I've only just started.)
  • Catch-22
  • Invisible Man
  • The Insider (Kingdom Keepers #7)
  • The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel (Whole series)
  • Toccata II (by Shilin Huang)
  • The Collectors (by Philip Pullman)
  • Ripped Wings: Jesza's Journey (by Odia Kane)
  • Bionic Punchline (by Damon L. Wakes)
  • Osiris Likes This (also by Mr. Wakes)
  • Tallstar's Revenge
  • More Sherlock Holmes... don't remember which volume I'm on...
  • Janson's History of Art (that's for school... this book is gargantuan o_o)
  • Demigods & Magicians (AKA the short triptych of crossover stories that Rick Riordan wrote)
  • Gaia (this is a really great webcomic I started reading; definitely check it out!)
  • Carciphona (while I'm listing webcomics~)
  • Cut Time (another webcomic, and this one's just starting out! The art is very pretty, though it can be tough to follow at times... I think it's just the art style, but it is very pretty art~ The first chapter was just completed, and I'm expecting really great things to follow! Looks very promising!)
  • The Hogwarts Library (three slim volumes that come from within the Harry Potter world)
  • Lyra's Oxford
  • Once Upon a Time in the North
  • Lost in Babylon (Seven Wonders #2)
  • Heart of Darkness
  • Death of a Salesman
  • Of Mice and Men

And then, by my latest count, I have 52 more books in my "to-read" pile. I'm basically getting books faster than I can read them right now. xD I did some quick figures and it's probably going to take me quite a number of years to whittle that pile back down to nothing. So, I think I'm going to put myself on a spending freeze for books lmbo. Well, unless people give me more Barnes & Noble gift cards, then I kind of have to use them. I will do my best, though, to stop buying books after I get Harry Potter and the Cursed Child this summer!! It is going to be difficult, but it's for the greater good... I must read what I already have... sigh... lol, wish me luck.

I felt the need to change this. It's been a while since it was November.

So, The Last Letter has temporarily ground to crashing halt. I have all of the story and plot worked out already, it's just that I've got bigger fish to fry at the moment.
So, in reparation, I've got another filler, a little six-chapter short which I'm calling "Resurgence."

I've done other little things since. Updates to the Book code, a few little doodles here and there... yep, and I'm heading to a Writers' Conference in a few days! That should be very fun~!

Ahhh, summer's coming. I miss winter.   :^(

Went on a trip to Canada recently! Gods, I loved it up there so much, and spending the trip with friends made it all the more amazing<3

And the books that I'm currently reading and have read since the last journal entry?

• Terminal (Tunnels series #6)
• Russian Roulette (Alex Rider series #10)
• Hush, Hush (I'm procrastinating on that one...)
• Sherlock Holmes (The Memoirs of) by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
• Breakaway (The 39 Clues: Unstoppable #2)
• This neat thing called "Finish This Book" by Keri Smith
• Allegiant (Divergent series #3)
• I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak
• Wolf Children: Ame & Yuki
• Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Search
• Looking For Alaska by John Green
• Library Wars Vol. 10
• An FFXIII fanfic (first fanfic I've ever read; it was pretty good!) called "Hunter's Pursuit"
• Thunder Rising (Warriors: Dawn of the Clans #2)
• WTF by Peter Lerangis
• Inferno by Dan Brown
• Durarara!! Saika Arc Vol. 3
• Summer Wars Vol. 2
• Carciphona Vol. 4

And that's it! At this point, there's only one thing left to say....

...do you wanna build a snowman~?

So, its been about... 6 months since my last journal entry? So much has transpired since then. I haven't been on dA as often, nor have I had time to work on things to upload to dA as often. Life is one crazy ride.
I finished the RXJ discs a while ago... don't remember if I made note of that, also too tired to insert links now. Made a little more progress in The Last Letter. Uploaded some other neat things too.

For the Holidays, I would like to receive some time as a gift. Because there simply just isn't enough of it.

Books I'm reading:
~Face of Glass
~Sherlock Holmes
~City of Ashes
~Darkness Falls
~OCR is Not the Only Font
And lastly, I found this book packed in a box in my basement called "Hush, Hush" that I'm gonna try out.

Sayonara.

Shoot! My Round 2 submission to the writing tournament I entered wasn't picked!
I understand now; Poetry tends to be more liked than prose for these types of things... which would explain why my haiku passed the first round.
But I'm gonna try and write something for Round 3 anyway, even if I can't enter it anymore!
Although, since I'm not worried about being picked to move on anymore, that leaves the question of doing poetry or prose for this... I'll figure it out.
The three prompts, by the way, are "Imminent Menace," "Sanctuary," and "What Awaits at the Farthest Ends."

Hey, on the upside though, I've gotten some love over The Last Letter Ch 4!! That totally brought my spirits right back up. :^)
Sorry though, The Last Letter Won't be concluded until after I finish a private story I'm working on, and possibly this would-be Round 3 submission, too.

Side notes:
~SUPER CLOSE TO FINISHING THE NEW CARDBOARD GUN
~But then I still have to make a holster for it afterwards ._.
~And the sheath for my sword after that
~And maybe that nightstand along the way
~I'll probably be back on hiatus for drawing since I have these other projects that I'd reaaaallllyyy like to get done

Lol, since I can't fit the amount of books I'm currently reading in that little blurb at the bottom, I'll list them here:
Death Note: Black Edition VI
Divergent
The Mortal Instruments #1: City of Bones
Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Art of the Animated Series
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
V for Vendetta
Science Fair

That's all. Peace.

Every time I'm about to succeed at finally FINISHING something for once, a new boulder gets dropped in my way!
The RXJ Discs have been finished for months now... Yesterday I finally scanned them...
I played with the brightness and the contrast a bit, took a step back to admire the beautiful scan...
...And I scanned it wrong! A whole piece of the picture got cut off because I didn't put the paper in right!
Goodness, what else could possibly go wrong??

...Well, on the bright side, I'm moving along on other things. I actually finished my little gift-art for :iconxoxjackie: within my self-assigned time limit of a month (Which I uploaded with literally six minutes to spare). Sunset of Betrayal is set to be uploaded to dA in it's entirety by Valentine's Day, which is a very convenient coincidence regarding the final chapter... But you can find out what I'm talking about when that happens in 11 days. The Last Letter... Okay, I'm still working on that. I took a long break so I could focus on xoxjackie's drawing, but I'll be back to work on it now. Gosh, it's so annoying... I probably should have finished it months and month ago, but it keeps getting pushed back... I'd like to have the next chapter and artwork of that uploaded soon. When 'soon' actually happens is anybody's guess.

And in non-dA news, the holidays were a success, and my bookshelf is completely overflowing with books. :^D
Gatsby was Great (heh, pun) and I'm loving The Book Thief. If I ever get back the books I let a certain someone borrow, I'm gonna fix The Book Code, which still has that little mistake in it. Plus it's just outdated. I've got plenty of new books I can incorporate into it, but I still need those other ones back to make it complete.

Oh, and there's my newfound obsession with Sword Art Online. I shouldn't even begin describe the roller coaster ride that was, otherwise I may start ranting... so let's just say "OMGOMGOMG I LOOOVE IT :^D :^D" and leave it at that. My sword sheath/scabbard/whateverthecoverforaswordiscalled is waiting to be finished. As is the new cardboard gun. Idk if I'll ever get to finishing that one... And on top of those, I decided that my bedroom could use a nice cardboard nightstand. One more rock on the pile ;^)
These are kind of like a way for me to keep track of what I've accomplished and what I'm still supposed to be doing. I set goals for myself and fail to meet them! But they're goals all the same, and I'll get to them eventually, heh.

Alright, I think that concludes this entry. I'm much too lazy to actually put in links or thumbnails at the moment. Sayonara!

Okay, edit, few days later, new obsession is Summer Wars. #Mindblownalloveragain
